High on the top of a mountain
Under a canopy of trees
Reading beside still waters
That’s where you’ll find me
I am an elder statesman
Grasping at straws of my youth
I’ve traveled to find Mother Nature
And bow at the throne of her truth
I have been searching for years now
Although my trip’s just begun
It was always on the back burner
And wrapped in the arms of someone
The arms of a beautiful woman
She was the love of my life
But then one day I couldn’t take it
And cut our bond with a knife
I’m up on this mountain to find out
Why my mind broke like it did
Was it something she said or simply who I am
That made it easy to snap as a twig?
My money's on the latter
I think that something is broke
I had it all and no reason to leave
Except for some strange, childish joke
Years down the road I’ll be laughing
Or at least forcing it out
Because when Mother Nature has striked out
I’ll be left with comical doubt
My beautiful blonde and my daughter
Will be with my son on Christmas Eve
Sharing a meal and some presence(ts)
Material and spiritually
I’ll fade away on the mountain
Grasping at straws of my youth
So take my story and remember
In the arms of your loved ones is truth
In the arms of your mother is truth
In the arms of your sister is truth
In the arms of your brother is truth
Even when you don’t feel it
